Over 900 charity fundraisers are expected to descend on Grasmere next week to take part in Walking With The Wounded’s flagship event, the Cumbrian Challenge.

Now in its 12th year, the event will see participants take on one of three hiking routes across the Cumbrian Fells. Money raised will go towards supporting veterans and their families across the UK through the charity’s mental health, employment and wraparound care coordination programmes.

This year, the event is sponsored by Sunbelt Rentals, DXC, FDM and BAE Systems Submarines. This year is expected to be the biggest Cumbrian Challenge yet.

Tony Hulton, WWTW CEO, said, “The Cumbrian Challenge is a fantastic team-building weekend set in the heart of the Lake District. We are grateful to our corporate sponsors for supporting the charity and the event and to everyone who has signed up to take part. Best of luck to everyone out on the hills next weekend, and thank you for supporting those who served.”

Since its inception, the event has seen over 1,600 supporters take part and has raised over £2.5 million to support veterans and their families.

Speaking about the event, Martin Lynn, WWTW Events Manager, said, “We are excited to welcome everyone to the Cumbrian Challenge next week. This year is set to be our biggest event yet, with over 930 people taking part. It's great to see so many new faces as well as those who return year after year for a fantastic weekend in the Lake District. Teams come together and take on one of the three hiking routes in support of those who served and their families. Thank you to everyone who is due to take part and to our sponsors for making it possible. We've snuck some surprises in again, like we do every year, so it's always fresh for everyone. Can't wait to see you on the hills!”
