Testimonial from Steve

"It’s a well organised event from start to finish, from the first email received on registering, to the last email thanking us for taking part and raising the money. We feel part of the event, as we are aware of everything that is going on during the lead up to arriving, great communication.

It’s a great event, good camaraderie, excellent support and interaction with WWTW staff from registering on the Friday, to leaving Saturday evening. The guys who run the mountain support teams fill you with confidence and you know you are in safe hands, to take on the challenge. The catering staff do an excellent job and the food is plentiful and tasty! The massage team are unbelievable and save a lot of aches and pains the following day!

I keep coming back because I hear first hand (from my wife Jill who works for WWTW) about the Veterans that WWTW support and how the money raised, is used on a day to day basis, which I pass on to my team mates and this motivates them to take part and fundraise. We all feel very strongly that Veterans need and deserve the help provided by WWTW and looking forward to taking part in 2025!"

Conquering the Fells, Conquering Challenges: The Cumbrian Challenge for Walking With the Wounded

"A true challenge with sweeping views, aching bodies, and hearts full of pride – that's the Cumbrian Challenge for Walking With the Wounded in a nutshell. The challenge is designed to be a challenge(!) and participants can choose one of three routes to undertake- the Peak, the Tough and the Tougher. The fresh air of the Cumbrian landscape masked the lung-burning climbs as the routes were navigated under clear blue skies in beautiful sunshine.

But amidst all the physical exertion, there was an undeniable camaraderie. Strangers became friends and teammates, all united in the purpose of pushing personal limits for a very worthy cause.

Laughter echoed through the valleys as everyone shared stories, helped each other and enjoyed the breathtaking views that constantly unfolded before us. But the true significance of this challenge goes far beyond the final finishing line. Every bead of sweat, every groan on the uphill climbs, was a testament to the unwavering commitment to helping those who have served our country.

This sense of purpose fuelled our steps. There were moments of quiet reflection, contemplating the sacrifices made by veterans and the importance of the cause we were walking for.

And then, there were moments of pure joy – reaching a summit together all with a shared purpose, high-fiving a fellow walker who had conquered a personal summit, or simply sharing a laugh over bad jokes and a well-deserved post-walk beverage (or two!). The best part? The incredible amount of money raised. Together, fundraising targets were smashed, ensuring that even more veterans will receive the support they need. It's a testament to the collective spirit of all the participating teams and the generosity of both sponsors and donors who understand the importance of giving back to those who have given so much.

The Cumbrian Challenge was more than just a walk in the hills. It was a journey of resilience, friendship, teamwork and above all, a powerful demonstration of our collective support for veterans.

The aches and pains will fade, but the memories – and the impact of the funds raised – will stay with us all forever."

Testimonial from Andy

"It's an absolute pleasure and a privilege to take part in the Cumbrian Challenge. It can be tough going, but the Lake District fells are such a spectacular place to walk. Completing the challenge feels amazing. You get a real sense of camaraderie and achievement having worked together towards the same goal.

It also gives us a chance to come together as a team, hear stories from veterans and understand the vital work that Walking With The Wounded does to help them get back on their feet. We employ a lot of ex-services personnel, so it's a perfect fit for us.

Since 2019 we've raised over £150,000 for the charity, working with our corporate partners, friends and families, and being as creative as possible to get people involved and spread the word. We'd like to thank everyone who participated, sponsored and donated, and we're looking forward to continuing our partnership with Walking With The Wounded."
