The big one. This is the toughest route we have to offer and is a long day. But ultimately a rewarding day - this is where your team will help pull you across the line. Where seeing WWTW beneficiaries will inspire you across those last few miles. Where remembering the difference your fundraising is making will drive you on.
A short break has been built into the Tougher route this year, with a WWTW staff manned pit stop to be placed on the route. We will advise this exact location and the cut off time closer to the event date. Any teams that leave this checkpoint later than the advised time will be politely but firmly redirected onto a slightly shorter route to ensure you make the finish line in daylight and safety.
Having warmed up on Heart Break hill, you head around Rydal Water and up and over Loughrigg ,then joining the ridge line up towards High Raise above Langdale valley with views towards Bow Fell and beyond. You then follow the winding Easdale valley back to grasmere and the event village. View the kit list
Q. How fit do I need to be to undertake this route?
A. The ascent profile for this route is the equivalent of completing Ben Nevis, plus another 70m. There’s no doubt that this is a real challenge and is for your experienced hikers or those that have done the tough route previously and are comfortable with the step up in difficulty. You will need to be capable of undertaking significant distances with several ascents thrown in and have a high level of fitness. Training for this route would take place in the months leading up to the challenge.
