Cumbrian Challenge
Sponsors
Sunbelt Rentals
We are proud to be supported once more by Sunbelt Rentals, who are the Headline Sponsor of the 2025 Cumbrian Challenge. Sunbelt have been involved with Cumbria for a number of years and are key partners of Walking With The Wounded.
Each year they smash participant numbers, bringing colleagues from across their business and from as far afield as the United States, flying the flag for veterans everywhere. Helping us put on the challenge itself through their logistical support, 2025 will see them smash through the £100,000 mark from the Cumbrian Challenge alone and we are very grateful for their efforts, this year and every year.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to Sunbelt Rentals for their invaluable, headline sponsorship of our flagship event, The Cumbrian Challenge. Sunbelt Rentals have been long-term supporters of WWTW, believing not only in the ambitions of our cause, but also sharing the same values and commitments towards the armed forces community. I am so proud to showcase this partnership throughout The Cumbrian Challenge and to deepen the bonds of our partnership through the participation of nearly 100 members of their workforce attending the event in May. Thank you team Sunbelt”
- Joel Oxberry, WWTW Deputy CEO
BAE Systems
BAE Systems Submarines has been with us from almost the beginning of the Cumbrian Challenge journey, starting their sponsorship journey in 2015 and going from strength to strength in the decade since.
A huge business at the heart of the defence industry, BAE Systems are also local to the Lake District, with a large footprint in Barrow-in-Furness, and we have been privileged to see hundreds of colleagues take on the fells for veterans. With over £150,000 raised over the years, BAE have been integral to the success of the Cumbrian Challenge and we can’t imagine the event without them.
“I’m so proud of the efforts that BAE have put into supporting wounded veterans over the years of their participation in the Cumbrian Challenge. Every year we see faces old and new from the business putting themselves through the physical wringer in support of those who’ve served. Their participation in the event is a highlight in our calendar and I hope it continues for years to come.”
- James Davis, WWTW Head of Events & Partnerships
"Our Armed Forces personnel put their lives on the line to keep the nation safe, BAE Systems remains both proud and committed to supporting them during and after their service. The UK's Veterans deserve respect and thanks for their selfless commitment to all we hold dear; our sponsorship of Cumbrian Challenge not only helps Veterans but also contributes to the local community, both of which are invaluable. Good luck to all involved in this worthwhile cause"
- Jim Perks CBE, Head of Future Workforce Strategy BAE Systems Submarines
DXC
DXC are the recent success story of the Cumbrian Challenge. Going from humble beginnings back in 2021, in the past couple of years it hasn’t been the Cumbrian Challenge without the sea of yellow DXC caps on the hills! Setting the record for teams in 2024, this year sees them go one (or several) better, bringing a mighty 42 teams to the event.
To date their support has raised over £100,000 for Walking With The Wounded and we look forward to another record breaking year, with colleagues from across the country and the world heading to Grasmere to challenge themselves for wounded veterans. They are also a key corporate partner of WWTW and we look forward to many more years working in tandem to make a difference.
“DXC Technology has played a crucial role in enabling Walking With The Wounded to support those who have served in the Armed Forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence. A partner since 2022, we are thrilled that DXC Technology is one of our key sponsors for the 2025 Cumbrian Challenge and cannot wait to see their team descend upon the hills for such an important purpose. The aligned values and objectives that WWTW and DXC Technology share enable both organisations to continue to ensure that Veterans and their families have the opportunity to thrive in civilian life after leaving service, and we are extremely appreciative of the opportunity to work alongside DXC Technology.”
- Kate Tabain, WWTW Director of Fundraising & Marketing
"DXC have had a long association with WWTW. From our initial connection when a small group of DXC employees entered the Cumbrian Challenge, word quickly spread amongst our people on the work that WWTW delivers to the Military Veteran community. It was a simple choice for DXC to move to a full sponsorship position and engage with WWTW to include Veteran recruitment and various other work-strands between us. Supporting the Cumbrian Challenge is a key part of our UK&I employee event calendar and from the humble beginnings of 5-6 teams and 20 employees we are now having to cap our attendance with over 150 people and 40 teams planned for 2025! It gives us a fantastic opportunity to bring every level of our UK&I staff together, strengthens our bonds both professionally and socially and is a truly ‘feelgood’ moment for us all. The event is the perfect moment for us to invest in our own teams and to underpin the social values we all share as part of DXC. One of the most rewarding elements of the event is the incredibly positive feedback from our walkers post the walk, supported by the vast amount that cannot wait to sign up for the following year!"
- Tim Olivey, Client Partner - UK&I Public Sector DXC Technology
Gasway
Gasway first took part in the Cumbrian Challenge in 2019, and its support has grown year after year, leading to the Norfolk-based heating company becoming a headline sponsor in 2022.
Through its determined fundraising efforts, Gasway has engaged its professional network and raised over £150,000 for Walking With The Wounded (WWTW). It further extends its support by assisting WWTW’s operational work through work experience placements and pro bono gas installations.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Gasway back to the Cumbrian Challenge as Presenting Partners; the event would not be the same without them. Their passion for supporting WWTW and the Armed Forces Community is demonstrated through their commitment and incredible fundraising efforts. Thank you for partnering with WWTW to ensure that those who served receive the support they deserve.”
- Tom Grimshaw, WWTW Relationship Manager
FDM
FDM are long-term supporters of Walking With The Wounded and the Cumbrian Challenge; their first participation in the event stretches back to 2015.
The global tech consultancy, one of the first companies to fully appreciate the skill set of those leaving forces, have been sponsors since 2016, with over 350 FDMers who have now made the trek to Grasmere. Their contribution is not limited to the Cumbrian Challenge; they are and have been involved in multiple fundraising activities over the last 10 years from Walking Home for Christmas, including a 400km cycle ride in 2024 and other internal events. The Cumbrian Challenge would not be the same without them!
“It is a privilege to celebrate the 10th anniversary of FDM’s involvement in the Cumbrian Challenge. We are hugely grateful for the support they have shown throughout the past decade; it has empowered the charity to support an increasing number of veterans every year. This would not have been possible without FDM’s dedication and belief. A special thank you to Andy Brown, Global Commercial Director, for being a staunch advocate of FDM’s long-term tenure. We are looking forward to FDM joining us on the hills once more, and for many years to come.”
- Tom Grimshaw, WWTW Relationship Manager
Craghoppers
Craghoppers are coming to the Cumbrian Challenge for the first time in 2025 after a number of years collaboration and we cannot wait to have them on board!
A very logical brand partnership, the values that we share and our belief in the power of the outdoors to make a positive difference to people sees us join forces on the hills. We’re delighted that Craghoppers will also be running a shop at the Cumbrian Challenge this year, helping to ensure that our participants are fully kitted out for their experiences in the peaks.
“WWTW is buzzing to have Craghoppers join as sponsors on the Cumbrian Challenge for the first time! Their gear and our mission, united in front of the fitting Cumbrian backdrop. This powerful partnership is built on shared values and a passion for overcoming obstacles, whether those be on the hills or as a result of the visible and invisible injuries carried by the ex-military we support.”
- Joel Oxberry, WWTW Deputy CEO
“At Craghoppers, we are always up for a challenge, which is why we are so excited to be sponsoring (and participating in) this year's WWTW Cumbrian Challenge. We have worked with WWTW for 5 years and really value the incredible work they do, which is why supporting them where we can is so important to us. So we will be putting on our hiking boots and getting stuck in, looking forward to meeting just some of the many veterans WWTW has helped over the years.”
- Clare Grimshaw Senior Marketing Manager
